After my much needed hiatus, I have figured out my Summer plans. I will be moving to New York City next Saturday to work for Ok! magazine’s fashion department! Super super excited! Anywhoo… BIG trend alert!!! Lace! My feelings about lace have always waxed and waned. On one hand I love the intricate details and how feminine lace is, however on the other hand you can end up looking like your grandma’s table cloth, or curtains, or doilies etc. I think it all depends on how the lace is styled, the quality of the lace, the color and quantity. I love the use of lace on wedding dresses but I cannot stand those A-line, off white, neckline to hem lace drenched gowns. There are ways to do lace right and ways to do it to suit your personality.

Pins and Needles. This dress has minimal lace detail, so if you're not big on lace but just want a splash, this is the way to go.

BB Dakota Sammy dress. However, if you're the exact opposite and you love lace, this is a very classic version.

Kimchi and Blue. This shirt is also a subtle way to embrace the lace trend, and it almost cross-styles into the cut out trend!

Silence and Noise. I love this tank! I love the tiers and the lightness of the lace and I love how they offset the delicate material with a hard zipper.

Kimchi and Blue. If you're not ready to go all out with the lace you can opt for peeks of lace intimates.

Kimchi and Blue. Or if you want more of a casual, day time, Rebecca of Sunnybrook farms look this simple design is a great way to do lace.

Thistlepearl. This is more of a going-out, party look with the see through coloring and the sweetheart neckline and still very feminine.

Kimchi and Blue. If you do happen to have a big fear of lace you can try pieces with just a touch, like this extremely casual pullover with a lace inset.

Silence and Noise. First of all, I don't know who would wear this see-through body suit, but I love the color of the lace.

BDG. Lastly, you could do lace on the bottom half with leggings.

Go Big or Go Home

In Places to Burn Plastic on February 26, 2010 at 3:40 pm

Okay, okay so I know I just did a blog on bracelets, but I’m accessories obsessed! When my mother comes to visit my sisters and I always tell her to bring her jewlery box (which we’ve been going through since we were all 10 years old!). Accessories can make or break an outfit, they are so important! If I have nothing else to wear I throw on a plain white v-neck tee, skinny jeans and a gorgeous statement necklace, it instantly dresses up an otherwise blah outfit! One of my favorite places to shop is Free People, they always have such interesting pieces.

FP Digital Classic Watch: I love this watch because it reminds me of one my father had when I was little!

FP Falling Leaves Earrings: these kind of have a tribal feel with an elegant twist.

FP Fortune Teller Crystal Ball Necklace: Shiny, Sparkly, what's not to love?

FP Field Flower Studs: I'm not sure if I would actually wear these but I find them so charming! They look like real flowers!

FP Flower Caged Watch: I am so into this watch, mostly because I love the brown leather band and the complementary gold tone.

FP Field of Dreams Cut Metal Necklace: now this is what I call a statement necklace! But it's also not screaming at you!

FP Quarry Amethyst Ring: natural stone/gem jewerly is really big right now!

FP Woodstock Dangle Earring: I love Peacock feather earrings, I just don't know how to wear them!

FP Prism Tangled Chains Necklace: edgy and delicate, a tough mix to find!

All of these pieces can be found at Freepeople.com

Bracelet Bonanza!!

In Places to Burn Plastic on February 7, 2010 at 7:56 pm
So I just got a tattoo in memory of my first love who passed away recently at age 22. It’s two small lines of writing on the under part of my wrist, which can easily be hidden beneath a bracelet or watch. Since my hope is to one day write for a fashion magazine, I’d most likely wear a couple bracelets to appear professional at work. It’s time to go bracelet hunting!! The perfect place…Neiman Marcus!

Is it Spring Yet?

In Places to Burn Plastic on February 4, 2010 at 2:52 am

Yes, it is still 30 or so degrees out but the spring lines are slowly emerging and I am so excited! There’s nothing I love more than pairing a flirty summer dress with a cute embellished cardigan. Some of my best dresses come from Anthropologie, I adore their unique, not-everyday feel. I’ll pair an off beat frock with an unconventional sweater for a fun outfit! There are just so many possibilities! 6 more weeks of winter until Spring dresses are out in full bloom!

The Golden Globes Part II

In Style Star Reviews on January 18, 2010 at 6:27 pm

This is the not so nice part, nothing against these particular actresses their look last night was just not my taste.

Diane Kruger in this hot pink, bubble number did not do it for me. It was so much for someone so naturally beautifully. She could have toned it down a bit.

Everyone was perfectly correct last night in their assertion that Mariah Carey already has her two globes. This was too trashy for the Golden Globes. She was hanging out and it just made her look wide.

I love Zoe Saldana, but this dress looked like it was put through a shredder. It's too much fabric hanging off her tiny frame. The color I liked and the top wasn't bad, but the bottom looked like old drapes.

Drew Barrymore looked fantastic las night...except for her dress. I loved the color, it was a great shade for her and the hint of shimmer. However, I could not get over those things that look like coral on her shoulder and hip.

Tina Fey is magnificent, but this dress last night did not do her justice. It was a little too youthful. She looked a little like an umbrella herself. Plus with the dark palette, she didn't have any great jewels to snazz it up.

My least favorite of all, Chloe Sevigny in this drapy, flowy gown. The moment she stepped onto the red carpet, I thought jelly fish. The color had no pop, it didn't flatter her shape at all, and there's just to much fabric all over in every direction. Final thoughts, I'm glad Chace Crawford stepped on her dress and tore the back.

The Golden Globes

In Style Star Reviews on January 18, 2010 at 6:14 pm

So this will have to be a two-parter, my personal best and worst dressed of the 2010 Golden Globes. Even though many reporters have been very kind this year saying everyone looked fantastic, that is simply not true. We’ll start with my favorites and then move onto the looks I did not care for. Let’s get started!

My favorite! Not only because I love Sandra Bullock and fully supported her win last night, but look at the color of that dress. The rich purple compliments her brown hair, stlyed impeccably of course. I love the fitted bodice with the organza bottom.

Olivia Wilde definitely topped her Emmy dress. This was sophisticated and sexy without being too over the top.

Emily Blunt looked radiant in this light airy shade of pink. I loved the differeny layers, how it made it looked textured and a bit messy.

Penelope Cruz was so elegant in this black dress, with the lace detail around the neck line and a full mermaid bottom. My favorite quote of the night was from her "I'm not Puff Daddy I can hold my own umbrella."

I loved Kate Hudson in this white number. The structured top was magnificent. She did everything right, the hair, the makeup, the jewelry. She's definitely my #2 favorite!

For such a young actress, Lea Michele looked so grown up and classic in this big black gown.

Lea Michele's costar, Dianna Agron also looked positively glowing in this sheer, flowy number.

Of course, Heidi Klum made my best dressed list. She looked like a modern day Cinderella in baby blue. I loved the sheer fabric draped around her arms.

Last but not least, Toni Collette. What I loved about this dress, was not only how it hugged her body but the beading was outstanding.

Keep Up

In Style Star Reviews on January 17, 2010 at 8:35 pm

“Keeping Up with the Kardashians” is pure genius. The Kardashian family is prime entertainment, they’re hilarious, classy and fashionable, especially Kourtney, Kim and Khloe. While it all started with Kim and her classic beauty, Khloe and Kourtney are just as beautiful and entertaining, hence their spin off show “Kourtney & Khloe take Miami.”  They always look put together, even in pregnancy Kourtney remained a fashion plate. Of course this isn’t surprising as they own their own clothing stores, Dash. They mix classic style with trendy pieces, which works for each of their very different body types. Unlike some reality tv stars, the Kardashian sisters manage to keep their makeup clean and complimentary to their natural beauty.

Party Time!!

In Places to Burn Plastic on January 11, 2010 at 8:34 pm

The last couple years have consistently revolved around the money cloud hanging over our country aka the recession, which rains budgets and saving information 24/7. Therefore fashionistas have morphed into recessionistas. It’s no longer okay to go out and blow $1000 on designer duds without getting snubbed. So this blog is devoted to party dresses under $200. You don’t need a lot of money to look good, you just need to know where to go!

Arden B Taffeta Rose Tube Dress for $46.80. Would be a great Valentine's Day outfit!

Bebe Mesh Detail Tank Dress $98. Embrace the cut out trend with this sexy little black number!

Banana Republic Silk Drawstring Dress $110. I <3 the neckline!

Ella Moss $193. Very flirty, perfect if you love ruffles!

Free People Dancing Queen Dress $138. The metallic pattern gives the plain little black dress some spice.

Free People On The Fringe Lace Dress $98. Confidence is needed to rock this magenta dress.

Free People Moonlight Tiers $138. A little bohemian fever!

Urban Outfitters Silence & Noise Fitted Military Dress $48. For those who are into the masculine meets feminine trend.

Urban Outfitters Silence & Noise Phoebe Dress $78. Sweet winter white!

Penelope

In Style Star Reviews on January 10, 2010 at 8:25 pm

I have always admired Penelope Cruz’s effortless beauty, her dark thick hair, her big eyes and her tan, clear skin. Many times I have tried to mirror her sultry look, but no one can pull off smoky cat eyes and tousled locks like she! Just recently I was finally able to watch the 2008 flick “Vicky Cristina Barcelona,” in which Penelope stars along with her real life beau Javier Bardem. As I watched I fell in love with the light airy fabrics, the Spanish scenery, language and Penelope’s portrayal of Maria Elena, Javier’s incensed ex-wife.

I love her hair in this shot!
